Peace with the Centaurs means that the military is no longer fighting aliens. Rev joins the Home Guard now working for humanity rather than the Union. Most of the time they are just for show, but occasionally he is called in to combat pirates and settle industrial/colony disputes. There is some action sequences but fewer than previously and based on this title and the next, this is more of a scene setter for what is to come….. The home guard includes people from other planets some of whom may be stressors to the Union, though of course this is supposed to be forgotten while they are in the home Guard. There is some one up man ship, some revelations and a surprise appearance of an old friend at the end…. An entertaining read, but can’t help feeling it is treading water…..
