What the Wind Knows Summary
“What the Wind Knows” is a good book that you can read online or download to read it later. Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather’s stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time. The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar. Mistaken for the boy’s long-missing mother, Anne adopts her identity, convinced the woman’s disappearance is connected to her own. As tensions rise, Thomas joins the struggle for Ireland’s independence and Anne is drawn into the conflict beside him. Caught between history and her heart, she must decide whether she’s willing to let go of the life she knew for a love she never thought she’d find. But in the end, is the choice actually hers to make?
Brief Summary What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon
Amy Harmon cleverly intertwines the past with the present, the real with the imaginary. The plot is shrouded in mystery. The lough on which the story starts and ends, the heavy fog hovering above , the boat transitioning Anne from the present to the past ,allowing her to meet her grandfather as a child, the uncanny resemblance to her great-grandmother which lets her feign motherhood and act as the mother’s boy, the attempted murder committed by some shadowy and mean character , whose motives and identity are revealed only at the end, and the historical background in which the bloody struggle between the insurgent Irish and the ruling Brits takes place ,only to be followed by the internecine battle between the two Irish factions concerning the treaty with England,
all lend a unique atmosphere of mysteriousness to the plot in which all protagonists take part in historical past events where they find themselves ensnared in an emotional tumult
