As I began to get to know the main characters, seventeen year old Lexie (now), and her mother, Emma, when she was a teenager (then), I wished I could read faster.Lexie longs to learn more about her mother. Emma, who passed away when Lexie was only a child, is a topic too painful for Lexie’s dad. So Lexie, without permission, takes off for an island in Lake Huron, where Lexie hopes to finds people who knew her mother over the summers when Emma was there.The narrative voice goes back and forth through time (then-Emma and now -Lexie). What is clever is that both women are the same age. Surprising to me was the number of mysteries to be solved as Lexie tirelessly searches for her story of origin.
