The central character of this frighteningly believable dystopian novel, a young woman called Glimmer, scrounges for survival on the coast of New York City, now drowned by melting glaciers. She belongs to one of the more “civilized” tribal dens that must scrounge for survival among the floods and ruins and vicious sub-tribes that are left after most other survivors have fled inland. With artful pacing, the author slowly reveals Glimmer’s hidden painful past. But it’s the discovery of her long-buried special skills that catapult her into the leadership of her den during a phenomenally exciting escape to the rock solid safety of Yankee Stadium.
